Security Settings

A Thing of Beauty!

Setting security within Pinnacle Professional can be a very powerful tool. However, with that power comes the time and understanding to set it up and continue to update it as new builds and features are added to Pinnacle Professional. We are planning to issue a blog update with new buttons, menus and security worthy items when Actual Systems releases build updates in the future.

But in the meantime we’d like to leave you with a few tidbits on setting security within Pinnacle Professional.

  • Setting security takes time and patience.
  • All security is based on groups. Give a good amount of thought to the groups you need for your yard including but not limited to new hires, future site goals and the current organization.
  • All primary buttons and menus within the system can have security established on them. Occasionally there will be an area with secondary buttons but security is not always available.
  • Typically if management sets security on the main menus (Think account payments, preference editor, Confirm Deliveries & WO Manager) in addition to the three major areas Accounting, Inventory and Sales then the yard as a whole will be in a very good position with security. There is still more that can be set but this is a good starting point.
  • ALWAYS remember main headings and menu items with black arrows (these indicate sub-menus) don’t impact your security. It only gives the illusion of security being set. (As of 9/21/11 build this has changed**)
  • ALWAYS SHOW everything! When you are in the process of actually setting security only DISABLE the items from the appropriate groups by unchecking the enable checkboxes. Actual Systems is in the process of removing the “SHOW” columns. (As of 9/21/11 build this has changed**)
  • If you did not spend an ample amount of time setting up your security when you converted to Pinnacle Professional it is always a good idea to go back and make sure it is set the way you’d like it to be.
